MORE LOVE PLEASE
By Alana Johnson
I often underestimate the power bestowed upon me
The extent of my divine capabilities
The fact that I can be anything
Or anyone I want, potentially
I somehow convince myself
I don’t deserve to succeed
Succumbing to fate
Before even faced with the choice to secede
At these times, I consult my mirror for the tea
She’s cute… but who is she?
Where did she come from, and what did she do with the “real me”?
That confident woman who knows she can do anything
Whose unbreakable pride is reflected by
Everything she does
She glows. Where did she go?
I need her right now
To uplift me and eradicate these thieving doubts
That girl with a presence who lights up a room
Who advised me “Be Patient, good things will come soon”
And I’d say
“The only good thing I want, is the peace within you”
How do I get it?
What must I do?
“You already have it” she would insist
Your mind won’t let you embrace it
That is no way to live
I don’t see how you can take it
Swallowed by fear, engulfed by anger
Blinded by envy too
Babygirl, your heart won’t let love permeate through
Yes, it is scarred, but time heals all wounds
The past is the past
What is done, no one can undo
That’s the truth and it hurts
But it to sets you free
Believe in love again
Love yourself, and let others love you
